Hero's Journey

Hazel Grace goes through the hero's journey in the Fault in Our Stars. Although she has been going through this journey ever since she was diagnosed with cancer, it can start with her call to adventure which is when her mom wants her to go to the cancer patient support group.

1.  Call to Adventure: Mother makes her attend a weekly support group that she doesn't want to go to
2. Assistance: Meets Augustus Waters who also had cancer
3. Departure: When Augustus asks Hazel to come over and watch a movie with him
4. Trials: Times Augustus and Hazel spend with each other
5. Approach: Hazel's lungs start to give out and she wakes up ICU. Her parents and doctors decide she can't go to Amsterdam, but they finally come to an agreement and et her go.
6. Crisis: When Gus and Hazel get to Amsterdam, Van Houten. And when Gus tells Hazel that his cancer spread throughout his body and that he will die soon.
7. Treasure: Enjoying their last months together
8. Result: Hazel prepares for Augustus' death and says what she wants to tell him at his "fake funeral"
9. Return: Hazel finds ways to manage the grief of losing Gus
10. New Life/ Resolution: Hazels gets a letter from Van Houten that Gus had wrote about how Hazel and his times together meant everything.
